Anne Swithinbank’s Diploma in Horticulture from Kew prepared her for a career that began in propagation, moved into glasshouse duties at RHS Wisley and took a leap into filming while working there. Launching herself as a gardening broadcaster and writer, she was taken on to the BBC 2’s Gardener’s World team and appeared regularly on the show for five years.
Anne went on to present several programmes for Channel 4 including, Bloom, The Gardens of the Caribbean, live coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Gardeners’ Calendar, Gardeners’ Calendar Roadshow, and Plants for Free.
An accomplished writer, Anne has written for many publications including the News of the World and BBC Gardener’s World magazine, and is currently a resident columnist for magazines Candis, and Grow Your Own.
She has written a number of books including The Greenhouse Gardener, The Conservatory Gardener, A Handbook of Greenhouse and Conservatory Plants, The Half-hour Gardener, The Sunroom Gardener: A Practical Guide to Growing Plants in Sunrooms, Atriums, and Conservatories, Collins Best Plants as well as three books for BBC Gardener’s Question Time and four books in the BBC Gardener’s World series.
Anne is a regular panellist for Gardeners’ Question Time on BBC Radio 4, and is frequently in demand to speak at garden centres, RHS meetings and various events around the UK including BBC Gardener’s World Live.
