REX WARNER

REX WARNER

Born in Windsor in the Chinese Year of the Dragon. Educated at Wellington College, read Geology at Durham University and Business Studies at Durham University Business School.

Inspired, organised, and/or participated in a dozen expeditions. Received Shell Livewire Award for organising and leading Enterprise Neptune - a two year, 20,000 mile voyage to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the first European rounding of Southern Africa. Enterprise Neptune was supported by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award International Association, The Royal Geographical Society and over 100 British and International Companies.

Undertook one of the longest raft voyages in history - a 6,000 mile, 6 month, voyage across the Pacific aboard a bamboo raft. This expedition, The China Voyage, aimed to investigate how the Chinese sailed to America 2000 years ago, and re-live the experience of sailing such an ancient type of vessel. The expedition attracted considerable press coverage and is the subject of a television documentary, and an award winning book. Education/and Environmental studies were important elements of the expedition - eg daily communication via satellite with school children in America.

Organised and led The Columbus Challenge, a year-long expedition to follow in the wake of Christopher Columbus' first voyage 500 years earlier. The Columbus Challenge was the only Quincentury project to follow the exact route and timing of Columbus' original voyage.

Sailed a 75' Chinese Junk , a replica of the vessel used by Marco Polo to return from China. in the South China Sea (The Marco Polo Voyage This project won the Rolex Award for Enterprise.

Other expeditions have included a 3 month exploration of the West coast of Greenland aboard a steel ketch specially built for polar voyaging; environmental expeditions to the Arctic; and ethnological projects in the rainforests of South America.

Professional interests include corporate speaking engagements, writing, photography (photographs published in over 100 newspapers and magazines, including National Geographic and The Times), and filming (news for footage has appeared on ITN and CNN, TV documentary produced for international distribution).
