After Dinner Speakers - Nigel Rees
Nigel Rees is probably best-known as deviser and presenter of Radio 4's long running Quote .... Unquote programme and for his many guest appearances on Channel 4's 'Countdown'. As the author of more than thirty books, his special interest lies in the popular use of the English language and especially the humour that derives from it. His broadcasting career has ranged from presenting Radio 4's 'Today' programme and reporting for 'News at Ten' to acting in comedy shows - most recently in 'Harry Enfield and Chums'.
His latest reference works are the 'Guinness Book of Humorous Anecdotes', the 'Guinness Dictionary of Jokes', 'Brewer's Quotations' and 'As We Say In Our House', a book of family sayings. Total sales of his books, including the best selling 'Graffiti' series exceed five million.
As an after dinner speaker, Nigel is much in demand. His personal brand of wit and word-play has attracted plaudits from mainly corporate and institutional clients at over 700 engagements at home and overseas.
Nigel is also established as a presented at functions and conferences. As guest speaker and lecturer, his subjects include 'Quoting and Unquoting', 'Good Manners' and 'The Pros and Cons of Politically Correct Language'. He also gives photographic lectures on 'Epitaphs' and 'Graffiti'. His experience as a radio and TV quizmaster has resulted in many invitations to play this role at corporate and private functions. Mostly on the festival circuit he also presents a one-man show of autobiographical anecdotes and impressions with the title 'Portable Soup'.
