Bob “the
Cat”
Bevan is now
enjoying the
busiest years
of his entertainment
career. While
the reference
to “the
Cat”
indicates
his goalkeeping
background
– he
is a top corporate
comedian tailoring
his act to
the audience.
He has made
countless
TV and radio
appearances,
including
the BBC 1
Variety Show
‘Jim
Davidson Presents’
and four appearances
on Terry Wogan’s
“Auntie’s
Bloomers”.
He has followed
Danny Baker
as presenter
of BBC Radio
5’s
Six O’Clock
Show and was
also the subject
of a documentary
on Meridian
TV on which
channel he
has his own
show. He frequently
appears on
Sky, including
as a spoof
cricket reporter
and on a Christmas
panel of four
comedians
– the
others being
Jim Bowen,
Bernard Manning
and Jimmy
Tarbuck. has
appeared on
BBC Radio’s
Trivia Test
Match.
Bob appeared
in Ronnie
& Friends
at the Fairfield
Halls with
Ronnie Corbett,
Jasper Carrott,
Jimmy Tarbuck
and Bruce
Forsyth. Other
credits include
appearances
with comic
greats Ken
Dodd, Frankie
Howerd, Arthur
Lowe and Eric
Morcambe;
he stole the
show at Eric
Clapton’s
25 years in
the music
business dinner;
he has his
own cartoon
strip in the
Daily Express
and he has
appeared with
several members
of the Royal
Family and
the late Archbishop
of Canterbury,
Lord Runcie,
one of he
many public
figures he
has spoken
for.
Apart from
his act, Bob
is also an
excellent
Master of
Ceremonies
and, with
his journalism
and public
relations
background,
makes an excellent
facilitator.
He began as
a reporter
on the daily
shipping newspaper
Lloyd’s
List and was
deputy editor
of a travel
trade magazine.
He was Group
Director of
Public Relations
for European
Ferries for
14 years and
has twice
run his own
PR consultancy
with some
success. He
made his first
speech at
his old boys
dinner in
1966 and turned
professional
in 1980.
He played
football for
West Wickham
in the Southern
Amateur League
for 25 years
and still
plays veteran
games. He
plays cricket
and is trustee
for the cricket
based charity
Lord Taverners
and has played
Kent League
tennis.
He has appeared
four times
at the Footballer
of the Year
Dinner –
a record –
and also twice
at the Professional
Footballers
Association
Player of
the Year Awards.
Of the 92
Premier and
Football League
clubs, Bob
has appeared
at 74 of their
dinners. He
stars in the
“Great
Goalkeepers
Show”
with Gordon
Banks and
Pat Jennings
and has also
made a recording
on football
humour, which
has frequently
been featured
on British
Airways comedy
channel.
Bob’s
act travels
well. He has
appeared in
Australia
and the USA
on a number
of occasions
as well as
Hong Kong,
Kenya and
South Africa.
In 1999 he
was flown
to Sydney
to speak at
a dinner for
England Cricket
Captain, Nasser
Hussein and
he has appeared
at countless
benefit functions.

Sunday After
Dinner Speakers
Hall of Fame.
In May 2001
he was inducted
into the Grand
Order of Water
Rats –
there have
been 825 Water
Rats in 105
years including
such comic
greats as
Charlie Chaplin,
Laurel and
Hardy and
Tommy Cooper.

Michael Crawford.
