20S-30S Era Bands And Orchestras
Sandwiched between the First and Second World Wars, the roaring 20s and elegant 30s was a time when people were keen to banish the austerity of wartime and replace it with an explosion of exuberance and indulgence.
The Charleston was all the rage and the 'swells were quite literally 'Putting on the Ritz' and the order of the day was 'Lets Face the Music and Dance'. Style was in, and in a BIG way with 'The Black Bottom and the Shimmy resplendent with fluffy ostrich plumes, strings of pearls, straw boaters, white ties and tails.
40S Era Bands And Orchestras
The wartime 40s and immediate post-war years heralded a step change from the 40s era generally more lavish and ostentatious approach of the pre-war decades. The glamour and the glitz was replaced by the rich velvety tones of masters including Cole Porter, Fats Waller and Duke Ellington and unforgettable standards such as 'The Lady is a Tramp' and 'As Time Goes By'.
The 40s also witnessed the birth of the 'Big Band' sound and Glenn Miller was most definitely 'In the Mood' and the dance halls across the land were jumping to the sights and sounds of the jive and the jitterbug.
